Is this love?
No, not the Whitesnake song, but the question that has crept in to the minds of many dog lovers who’ve pondered – does my dog really love me? Like, really, really?
This video explains all.

Understanding how dog’s speak and communicate helps owners to gain a better view of what their dog is trying to say in their very own canine language.
If you were ever under the illusion that genetics and inherited traits weren’t important in dogs, you need to see this.
There is a reason why dogs do what they do. Genetics.
Some breeds are predisposed to fetch things, some to herd things, some to protect things.

Watch these two dogs get fooled by the latest trick taking off on Youtube.
A dog named Bella managed to upstage weather presenter Josh Judge when she nonchalantly walked in front of the camera during his weather forecast.

When Stewart visited the shelter he spoke to the staff and learned what it was they needed the most. So off he went to do something as a way of giving that is both inspiring and incredibly uplifting. For all the bad that happens in the lives of thousands of homeless dogs, it’s always nice to remind ourselves there are more good people out there than bad.

95% of us celebrate or pet’s birthdays according to research conducted by Battersea Dogs & Cats Home. For some reason we just have to let our animal’s in on this most human tradition of acknowledging the date upon which we made our entrance in to this world and, as far as we can tell, our dogs are more than happy to play along with this particular act of benevolent anthropomorphism. The real question is, just how far are you willing to go to ensure your dog has a birthday to remember? Would you go as far as this particular owner….

Mortal enemies they said.
Diametrically opposed they said.
Contradicting every cartoon you’ve ever watched, it would appear cats and dogs can get pretty darn snuggly. Just take a look at these cats getting super close to their canine pals.

Rosie the Pit Bull found herself in a dog shelter looking for a new home like thousands of other unfortunate dogs. Sadly for Rosie, being without an owner wasn’t her only problem. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of the staff at the shelter they worked on teaching Rosie how to understand and when Cindy Koch finally got a chance to meet Rosie you’ll see why the pair share such an emotional connection.

We all know our dogs can pick out certain words when spoken in casual conversation – but new research has shown that we’ve likely been underestimating our dogs vocabulary range for a long time.
How many words do you think your dog truly recognises?

On #nationaldogday, what better way to celebrate our friend the canine than by sharing their joy at one of their most favourite of all things….

A police dog named Monty has taken part in a push-up challenge to raise awareness of veteran suicide in the UK and USA.
Led by his handler and former marine commander PC Steve Hopwood from Avon and Somerset Police, the crime fighting duo has been doing 22 push-ups daily as part of the #22Pushups challenge.

The duo’s efforts seem to be doing more than just raising awareness after the Avon & Somerset Police Dog’s Twitter account tweeted this:
PD Monty patrolled on to a burglary in Yeovil last night, 3 detained after a small chase & search…those push ups are paying off ?????

Well done Monty!

As a pet owner, we all know one of the downsides to Summer can be the added worry of parasites. From fleas to ticks, parasites thrive when the climate heats up. But it’s not just your pets that are at risk, your home could also have more pesky parasites hidden than you can even imagine.
Did you know…?
Flea infestations are common during warmer spells but only 5% of fleas live on your pet, with the remaining 95% living in your home.

Aggie MacKenzie, also known as the ‘Queen of Clean’ is best known for her no-nonsense approach on the TV show ‘How Clean Is Your House?’ so it’s no surprise that as she teams up with Bob Martin to offer advice to pet owners, she takes a no-nonsense approach to tackling the problem.
Aggie’s top 5 tips
1. Treat your pet for fleas
2. Wash your pet’s bedding
3. Vacuum everywhere to treat the fibres
4. Remember to hoover the skirting boards and the curtains
5. Use home flea products to kill any fleas that may intrude

Meet Twinkie, a Jack Russell Terrier from California. She’s a dog like any other, except she comes from a long (ish) line of dogs who LOVE to burst Guinness World Records. And balloons.
Twinkie smashed her attempt popping all 100 red balloons in just 39.08 seconds, beating the previous record of 41.67 seconds which had been held by Cally The Wonder Dog, who shot to fame on the TV talent show ‘Britain’s Got Talent’.

Twinkie is the daughter of Anastacia who set and broke the record twice between 2005 and 2008 and held onto her record for seven years demonstrating her talent on TV shows across the States.
Cally The Wonder Dog gracefully congratulated the tenacious Terrier on Facebook saying, “Congratulations to the new GWR holder back in America – nice to be balloon popping and what fun! I am now retired and relaxing on my dog yacht. With all the popping and my earnings I made in my year as holder it’s time I hung up my claws.”
So it seems we don’t need to worry about a US vs USA battle. Or do we…could your dog be a contender for next year?

Ever wondered about the mechanics of how your dog drinks water?
If you’ve ever stood near a dog drinking water for very long you’ll have noticed how it seems they can get as much water outside of the bowl as that which apparently makes it in to their mouth. The fast lapping action. The rhythmic scooping of fluids. I’ve even got a dog who drinks in triplets – 1,2,3 – 1,2,3 – 1,2,3 and repeat. But what’s actually going on? Here, have a look for yourself:
“We know cats and dogs are quite different in terms of behavior and character,” said Sunghwan “Sunny” Jung, a study author and an associate professor of biomedical engineering and mechanics at Virginia Tech who conducted a study in to how dogs and cats drink water. “But before we did fundamental studies of how these animals drink fluids, our guess was dogs and cats drink about the same way. Instead we found out that dogs drink quite differently than cats.”.
The findings of the study showed that dogs use their tongues a lot faster than cats.
Dogs have to rapidly plunge their tongues in and out of the fluid in order to get their fill, whereas cats use a more smooth action, simply skimming the surface to take on board the water they desire.
“Cats tend be viewed as neater, dogs are messier [raised dog bowls might combat mess], but dogs really have to accelerate their tongues to exploit the fluid dynamics of the water column,” said researcher Sean Gart, a Virginia Tech graduate student.
